Memorial Biography

Mr. Duane Ray Swisher was born in Crawfordsville,
Indiana, on May 28, 1958, the son of Donald Lee and Delores Faye (Baldwin)
Swisher.

Reared and educated in Montgomery
County, Indiana, Duane graduated from Crawfordsville High School in 1976.  He attended Ball State University where he
was on the swim team and received his bachelor's degree.  He then went on to DePauw University where he
received his master's degree in education.

He was first married to Sally J. (Todd) Swisher in 1981 and they
divorced.  On March 24, 2007, he was
married to Martha Ann (Taylor) Swisher at Dover Christian Church in Dover,
Indiana.  Mrs. Swisher survives.

Duane was a teacher at Western Boone High School for 24
years.  While at WEBO he acted as the
health/physical education teacher, swim coach and aquatics director.  He retired in 2013.  Prior to that, he taught at South Vermillion
High School for seven years.  Duane
enjoyed teaching in and out of the classroom whenever and wherever a moment
presented itself.

Dedicated to his family, Duane loved spending time with his wife
and children.  In his little spare time,
he enjoyed working with his hands, whether it be building a canoe or a
house.  His hobbies included being
outside, hiking, climbing and sailing.
Among his greatest achievements were 1980 Olympic Team Member, World
Triathlon Team Member, and an epic father!
